Crescent Memories (2004)

A ‘Son et Lumiere’ installation for Buxton’s Crescent exploring the building’s past and hopes for the future through the voices of Buxton residents and projected images.

The façade of the building became a screen upon which coloured forms and ghostly images were projected to accompany an audio soundtrack constructed from personal memories giving an evocative insight into the building’s complex history.

The project was funded by the Trevor Osbourne Property Group and was presented twice nightly for the ten days preceding Christmas Eve, 2004.

After Dark (2000)

An interactive audio-visual installation for the Crescent, Buxton. Each night during the Buxton Festival passers-by would trigger the appearance of shadowy figures in the windows of the Crescent accompanied by eerie sounds from within the building.

The figures, sourced from old photographs and illustrations of the Crescent, brought a transitory sense of occupancy and life back to the deserted building.

After Dark was a self-initiated project funded by the Buxton Festival Fringe, with support from the Old Hall Hotel and Derbyshire County Council.

Thanks to John Wilson for his help.
